Ostochtersum is next to Barkholt and Westochtersum one of three districts of Ochtersum , a municipality in the integrated municipality of Holtriem in the East Frisian district of Wittmund , Lower Saxony .

The village is located about five kilometers northeast of Westerholt at an altitude of 6.7  m above sea level. NHN . The terp settlement covers an area of ​​6.95 square kilometers. The soil consists largely of Plaggeneschboden, which are underlain by pseudogley brown earth soils. The village is predominantly agricultural. The name of the place refers to the location in the east of the municipality of Ochtersum. Their name is probably a derivation of the Latin noun ortus (= sunrise).
