Ostravak

Ostravak is a local political protest movement in the Czech city of Ostrava that has existed since 2010 and won a direct seat in the 2012 Senate election in the Czech Republic .

History and background

The movement, which is optionally called Hnutí Ostravak ( Ostravak Movement), Politické hnutí Ostravak ( Ostravak Political Movement) or Ostravak, hnutí občanů (Ostravak Citizens' Movement), but only named Ostravak in the statutes , was formed in 2010 before the local elections in Ostrava. The reasons that can be found in the goals of the movement to this day were dissatisfaction with the nepotism and arrogance of power, dilettantism, legal uncertainty, mismanagement and similar problems. It is a local or regional phenomenon that the coalition of major parties in Ostrava wants to attack because it does not take into account the interests of the city and region.

Electoral successes

In the local elections of 2010, the movement won ten seats in the magistrate of the electoral district of Ostrava and ten seats in the districts of Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz (that is, twenty out of a hundred seats). In the Senate elections of the Czech Republic in 2012 , the movement won a mandate for the constituency of Ostrava City.
