Otaka price

The Otaka Prize ( Japanese 尾 高 賞 , Otaka-shō ) is an annual music prize for contemporary composition in Japan. The award is given to commemorate the achievements of the conductor and composer Hisatada Otaka since 1952, i. H. awarded since the year after Otaka's death. It was donated by the NHK Symphony Orchestra and is given to Japanese composers who live at home and abroad. The composers are honored for an outstanding work that premiered in the course of the year between the awards. The Otaka Prize has the longest tradition of music prizes in Japan. The award ceremony is currently taking place on the occasion of a performance of the Music Tomorrow series in Tokyo Opera City .
