Michio Mamiya

Michio Mamiya ( Japanese 間 宮 芳 生 , Mamiya Michio ; born June 29, 1929 in Asahikawa , on the island of Hokkaidō , Japan ) is a Japanese composer .

As early as 1940 he received composition lessons from Moroi Saburō . He was a student of Hiroshi Tamura in piano and Tomojirō Ikenouchi in composition at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music . He is particularly interested in original Japanese music. Nevertheless, he tries to achieve a synthesis of European music and traditional Japanese music in his works. He has also dealt intensively with authentic music from Africa , Scandinavia as well as numerous Asian countries and not least Japan. As a speaker and lecturer, he worked at workshops and so-called clinics in Finland , the former Soviet Union , Canada , the United States of America , Hungary and China .

He lectured at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and at the Toho Gakuen School of Music . His works have received numerous prizes and awards at home and abroad.
