Minao Shibata

Minao Shibata ( Japanese 柴 田 南雄 , Shibata Minao ; born September 29, 1916 in Tokyo ; † February 2, 1996 there ) was a Japanese composer .

Shibata studied botany and took private music lessons from Saburo Moroi . From 1939 to 1941 he was the cellist of the Tokyo String Orchestra ( 東京 弦 楽 団 , Tōkyō Gengakudan ). From 1948 to 1955 he taught at the University of Tokyo , from 1952 to 1959 at the Ochanimizu Women's University , and from 1959 to 1969 he was Professor of Musicology at the Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku University of Music , after which he lived as freelance composer. In addition to orchestral and vocal works, he also composed pieces for electronic instruments.
