Otmar Holzer

Otmar Holzer (born December 23, 1939 in Lustenau ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and businessman. From 1984 to 1999 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After attending the Kirchdorf-Lustenau elementary school, Holzer graduated from the Lustenau secondary school between 1950 and 1954 and the Lustenau commercial school from 1954 to 1956 . From 1956 to 1966 he worked as a commercial clerk in two different embroidery factories in Lustenau and then took over the family business, Elektro-Holzer OHG, together with his siblings in 1966. Holzer was also the commercial manager of the family business until 1979. Then in 1980 he and his brother Helmut founded an independent company for the distribution of commercial laundry machines, for which he worked until his retirement in 1999.

Politics and functions

Holzer was a party member of the ÖVP or the sub-organizations ÖAAB and the Austrian Economic Association . In 1957 he took over the function of a member of the local party leadership of the ÖVP Lustenau and served as local party leader in the ÖVP Lustenau from 1974 to 1995. In 1965 he was elected a substitute member of the Lustenau municipal council and was a member of the municipal council from 1970, where he was chairman of the environmental and energy committee from 1975 to 1988. He was a member of the local council until 1995 and was also a member of the local council from 1975 to 1988, where he was in charge of the environment department. After 1995 Holzer was again a substitute member of the municipal council.

At the district level, Holzer was deputy district party chairman of the ÖVP Dornbirn and a member of the ÖVP district party leadership; at the state level, Holzer was a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg from 1974 to 1999. As a member of the Dornbirn constituency, Holzer represented the ÖVP from November 6, 1984 to October 4, 1999 in the Vorarlberg state parliament.

In addition to his political functions, Holzer was involved as chairman of the Lustenau carnival guild "Rhinzigünar", was a substitute member of the board of trustees of the state housing fund and a substitute member of the housing promotion council. Since 1956 he was also a member of the Lustenau Crib Association, a member of the Austrian Alpine Club, a member of the St. Christoph Brotherhood and a member of the SC Austria Lustenau.

Private

Otmar Holzer was the son of the electrical installer Johann Holzer from Lustenau and his wife Lina Holzer, née Scheffknecht, who was also born in Lustenau. He married Rosmarie Hollenstein in 1968 and had five children between 1969 and 1981.
