Otomen ( Japanese オ ト メ ン (乙 男) ) is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Aya Kanno , which has appeared in Japan since 2006 and has also been implemented as a television series.

The title is a play on words from Japanese otome ( 乙 女 , "girl"), in which the symbol for woman is replaced by that for man and this English is read as men .

The student Asuka Masamune ( 正宗 ) is tall, athletic and popular with the girls. He practices judo , karate and kendo and is considered cool and manly. An English translation is published by Viz Media in the US and Madman Entertainment in Australia and New Zealand. Akata / Delcourt publishes a French version and Tong Li publishes the manga in Taiwan. A German translation by Claudia Peter was published in full from October 2010 to December 2015 by Carlsen Verlag .

Adaptation

A dorama based on the manga was created in 2009 under the direction of Masaki Tanimura . The first eight episodes called Otomen - Natsu ( オ ト メ ン (乙 男) 〜 夏 〜 , "Otomen - Summer") were broadcast on Fuji TV in Japan from August 1 to October 26, 2009 , the next four episodes under the title Otomen - Aki ( オ ト メ ン (乙 男) 〜 秋 〜 , "Otomen - Autumn") from October 13th to November 3rd, 2009.
