description
The Otter Sea has an area of about 13 hectares and a length of about 770 m in north-south direction. The water is 2 m deep on average. The lake is surrounded by a rain moor landscape; accordingly the water is cloudy brown. There are pike , pikeperch and eel in the lake . At the southern end there is a small island.
The lake has a sandy beach on the north bank and is used as a bathing lake . You can surf on the lake . There is a boat harbor and rental of pedal boats and kayaks . Once a year there is a fun run around the lake. The body of water was created when peat was extracted in the 1970s. The executing company was Bohlen & Doyen. The original Ottermeer moor lake was located to the northwest in the area of the moor puddles in today's protected landscape area. This area is no longer drained today.
At Easter 2001, adjacent to the lake to the north, the city of Wiesmoor opened a campsite of around 7 hectares .
