Otto Dix Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Otto Dix Prize is named after the painter and graphic artist Otto Dix and is awarded by the art collection and city of Gera in the city of Otto Dix's birth. The prize is one of the most highly endowed art prizes for young art in Germany. It is awarded every two years. The prize is endowed with a total of EUR 20,000, of which EUR 10,000 is earmarked for prize money and EUR 10,000 for the purchase of works of art by the winner.

According to the concept of the city of Gera, the Dix Prize is "a sponsorship award for young artists in German-speaking countries and aims to continuously support young contemporary art that combines committed timeliness with reflective self-confidence, gives both original artistic expression and evades common reception patterns."

A five-person jury, each with a new constellation, determines the winner. The jury consists of a representative of the Gera art collection and the sponsor and three representatives from the museum, art education or media. It is particularly important for the initiators to appoint at least one artist to the jury.

GDF Suez was the sponsor of the award until 2013. Since then, the prize has not been awarded due to the financial emergency in the city of Gera.
