Otto Borriss

Otto Borriss (born December 30, 1881 in Stargard , † November 10, 1975 in Schwedt ) was a teacher and local researcher .

Life

Otto Borriss attended high school in Stargard and then studied at the Marienburg teacher training college . In 1902 Borriss was hired as a teacher in Vandsburg and at the same time taught at the commercial advanced training school there, of which he later became director. For this he attended the master school for carpenters and wheelwright in Gumbinnen and the mechanical engineering school in Breslau .

After the First World War , Vandsburg was assigned to the Polish state without a referendum . That is why Otto Borriss went to Schwedt. He taught first at the girls 'middle school and, after it was closed, at the boys' elementary school. From 1924 to 1928 Borriss was an honorary member of the Schwedt magistrate and was responsible for the parks, the cemetery and the slaughterhouse. At the same time he headed the teachers' association Schwedt and the surrounding area. After the end of the Second World War , Otto Borriss was one of the few teachers who had not been a member of the NSDAP . So he was commissioned to set up the new school system in Schwedt. He trained new teachers and was able to reopen the first school on October 1, 1945. In 1952, after 50 years of teaching, he left school at the age of 71. He continued to dedicate himself to local history and ran the Schwedt city museum on a voluntary basis until 1975.

Otto Borriss' wife died in 1945. His son Heinrich became a well-known botanist professor at the University of Greifswald.
