Otto Göttfert (born July 25, 1917 in Sibiu ; † April 28, 2006 in Buchen (Odenwald) ) was a German mechanical engineer . In professional circles, the successful entrepreneur is considered a pioneer in rheology .

Live and act

Otto Göttfert attended the Brukenthal School in his hometown and was a choir singer. After leaving school, he completed a commercial apprenticeship at the Gremial commercial school in Sibiu. He dealt with technical issues from an early age. After working in a machine factory in which Otto Göttfert helped develop press and air tools, he studied mathematics and physics and focused on preparing for a degree in mechanical engineering at the Mittweida engineering school in Saxony. He studied in Mittweida from 1941 to 1943 and graduated as a mechanical engineer in 1943 as the second best graduate of his year. During the rest of his life, Otto Göttfert worked in various companies as a technical manager in the fields of heating and electrical engineering. In 1949 he married his wife Doris (née Haas). The couple has a son and two daughters.

In 1962 Otto Göttfert took the plunge into self-employment and founded the company "GÖTTFERT - Feinwerktechnik GmbH" in Buchen with the addition of "Rheological testing devices for molded plastics, thermosetting plastics and rubber" in Buchen. The company has been called GÖTTFERT materials testing machines since 1978 . Today the company is one of the leading manufacturers of rheological testing devices for thermoplastics, duromers and rubber. In 1985 Otto Göttfert founded a sales company in the USA. The entrepreneur recognized early on that modern plastics technology required physically reliable testing procedures with testing machines and he continued to develop more than thirty types of equipment in his company. Today GÖTTFERT is the market leader in capillary rheometry and laboratory equipment on the world market. The world's first rotorless volcano was made by Otto Göttfert. The company maintains its market leader position through the internationally recognized hardware and software developed in the company, accompanying advice and seminars for advanced training in polymer rheology .

In 1991 the Technical University of Leuna-Merseburg awarded him the title of Dr. Ing.hc and in 1997 the St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University was given an honorary professorship for his contribution to scientific technical investigations in device construction. He made significant advances in universities and colleges and in production.

Otto Göttfert was also a role model in the social field. He supported his hometown Sibiu, the city of Buchen and teaching and research at universities in Germany and Russia in many ways. Otto Göttfert was a founding and honorary member of the "Hochschule Mittweida" sponsorship group. The Mittweida University of Applied Sciences named a lecture hall after him for his work as a patron and the diverse support for efforts to educate young people. In his acceptance speech Otto Göttfert said among other things: “Balancing, harmonizing justice, tolerance and acceptance, dear guests, form the basis of human coexistence as I understand it, as the consensus for a constructive coexistence of individualities presupposes the equality of differences; it is no different in the family than in a business community and in society between peoples. This requires an open, prejudice-reducing dialogue, which alone opens up the chance to tear down walls that seem insurmountable. In this context I consider myself fortunate that I was able to experience the consequences of such a successful dialogue, the reunification of Germany, and I hope that our national East-West rapprochement will continue in steady steps into the "we feeling" of a unity that is already perceived as familiar by the next generation.
