Otto Hans Ressler (born November 12, 1948 in Knittelfeld , Styria ) is an Austrian writer , art expert and auctioneer .

Life

Otto Hans Ressler was born in Knittelfeld in 1948 and is the father of the artist Oliver Ressler .

After his original professional career as head of department and division of the Sparkasse der Stadt Knittelfeld, Ressler took over the management of the Dorotheum in Graz in 1978 and in 1986 the management of the art department of the Vienna Dorotheum.

In 1993, together with the art dealers Herbert Giese , Harald Schweiger, Kristian Scheed, Michael Kovacek and the lawyer Ernst Ploil, he founded “Die Wiener Kunstauktionen Ges.mbH” in the Kärntnerringhof in downtown Vienna. In 1999 the auction house moved to the Kinsky inner city palace in Vienna, and was appropriately renamed to “Auktionshaus im Kinsky GmbH” for the new location .

Ressler has been a sworn and court-certified art expert since 1995.

Contrary to the original plan to retire in 2015 in order to devote himself entirely to writing, Ressler founded the auction house “RESSLER KUNST.” Together with Peter Coeln , the boss of WestLicht and OstLicht , as well as the financial advisor Markus Schmut and the real estate developer Valentin Basilides AUKTIONEN GMBH ". The new auction house specializes in contemporary art, predominantly of Austrian origin, and regularly holds two auctions per year. It is located on the premises of the OstLicht gallery, on the site of the former Anker bread factory (Vienna) .

Ressler's activity as an auctioneer is not limited to his own auction house, but also includes many other auctions in the art sector, often on a voluntary basis, such as B. at the art auctions of the Bruno Kreisky Prize for services to human rights .
