Otto IV , the limping († 1446 ), Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg , was Prince of Lüneburg from 1434 to 1446 .

Life

After the death of his father Bernhard , he and his brother Friedrich the Pious took over the government in the Principality of Lüneburg . Their rule was marked on the one hand by extensive construction work on the Celle Castle , on the other hand by numerous reforms that improved the legal situation of the farmers in relation to the landlords.

In several campaigns Otto also went against incursions of the Altmark before knighthood in the Principality of Lüneburg, and he led feuds against the Count of Spiegelberg and the counts of Hoya . To finance his feuds , he pledged the Homburg-Eversteinian goods and introduced new water tariffs on the Ilmenau . The latter led to serious disputes with the city of Lüneburg, as the city's trade was affected by the tariffs.

progeny

In 1425 Otto IV married Elisabeth von Eberstein (* before 1415; † 1468) and had a daughter with her.
