Otto Jänicke

Otto Jänicke (born May 10, 1932 ) is a German Romance studies and linguist.

life and work

Jänicke studied in Rostock and Berlin. It was developed by Walther von Wartburg to Basel for French etymological dictionary fetched (FEW) and received his doctorate in 1964 in Basel over the names of rye in the Romance languages with special reference to Gallo Romania. A contribution to the history of the Romance grain terminology (Tübingen 1967).

He completed his habilitation in Basel in 1970 and was editor-in-chief of FEW from 1972 to 1977, then from 1977 to 1998, as successor to Max Pfister, full professor of Romance philology in Marburg .
