Max Pfister (Romanist)

Max Pfister (born April 21, 1932 in Zurich ; † October 21, 2017 in Saarbrücken ) was a Swiss Romance studies and linguist .

Life

From 1951/52 until his doctorate in 1958, Pfister studied Romance languages ​​at the University of Zurich . He then worked as a teacher for French and Italian at the cantonal high school in Zurich. In 1968 he completed his habilitation at the University of Zurich and became a professor at the University of Marburg in 1969 and at the Saarland University in 1974 .

With the Lessico etimologico italiano (LEI) published by him , he initiated a dense network of Italian and German-language research on Italian etymology and dialectology .

From 1986 to 1989 he was President of the international Société de Linguistique Romane .
