Otto Lüdicke

Otto Lüdicke (born April 26, 1912 - August 1, 1999 ) was a German field handball player.

Life

Otto Lüdicke played as a goalkeeper at PSV Dessau, SV Dessau 98 and BSG Schiffswerft Roßlau. With PSV Dessau he won the Gau-Mitte championship (Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt) in 1932. After the club was dissolved in 1934, Lüdicke moved to SV Dessau 98. On May 23, 1937, Lüdicke played his first international match in Vienna against the selection of Austria, which was won 15: 6. Lüdicke played a total of eight international matches. In 1937 and 1938 he won the eagle prize of the "Reichssportführer" with the selection Gau-Mitte.  

In July 1938 the first world championship in field handball took place. The German team, with Otto Lüdicke in goal, won the final in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on July 10, 1938, in front of 30,000 spectators, with a clear 23-0 win against Switzerland.

In the war years 1941, 1943 and 1944 Otto Lüdicke was three times Gau Mitte champion with SV Dessau 98. After his return from captivity in 1946, he joined the successor club of SV Dessau 98 of SG Dessau-West. In 1947 he moved to BSG Schiffswerft Roßlau and won on May 27, 1951 in the final in front of 12,000 spectators in Leipzig against BSG Mechanik Gera with 10: 9, the "GDR championship" in field handball. Three years later, at the age of 42, Otto Lüdicke ended his active career.
