Otto Näscher

Otto Näscher (born November 24, 1930 in Bochum ; † 1997 in Düsseldorf ) was a German graphic artist , visual artist and university professor .

Life

Otto Näscher came from Bochum and had lived in Düsseldorf since 1956.

Since 1960 he has been a lecturer at the Folkwangschule Essen ( Folkwang University of the Arts ), where he had also studied. In 1973, after founding the University of Essen, he was appointed professor for representation and design, where he taught in the communication design course until 1996 . Many of his students are now well-known illustrators and designers. In parallel to his work as a professor, he worked as a visual artist throughout his life.

He was married to Christel Näscher-Hentschke († 2013), an artist and children's book illustrator. He lived in Düsseldorf with her and their three children. One daughter is the fashion designer Barbara Schwarzer (* 1957).

Shortly before his death, on May 3, 1997, a large exhibition was shown in the foyer of the Folkwang University in Essen-Werden, and thus for the first time a comprehensive presentation of his work. It received a lot of attention from the public and the regional press. Otto Näscher's extensive work of drawings, watercolors and collages made of paper is now largely owned by his children.
