Otto Riedel

Otto Riedel (born January 8, 1906 in Klosterneuburg ; † August 18, 1991 there ) was an Austrian painter and draftsman. His artistic work was shaped by many different techniques, from the sketch to the ink drawing , watercolors , oil and acrylic paintings to wood and metal prints .

Otto Riedel traveled a lot. During the Second World War he was inspired to draw by the villages of Russia and France. His intense creative period began in the 1950s, which included many trips to Italy, Greece, Yugoslavia, Turkey, but also to the north.

Numerous exhibitions in Austria and Germany made his work known. He has received personal awards from the long presidency of the Klosterneuburg Artists' Association (KKB), the award of the Austrian professor title and numerous other honors such as the medaille d'argent at the European exhibition in Brussels, the culture award of the city of Klosterneuburg and the Rudolf-von-Alt -Honor of the Künstlerhaus , of which he was made an honorary member in 1981.

He died in 1991 and was buried at the Upper City Cemetery in Klosterneuburg.

Riedel has developed an unmistakable type of architectural drawings as well as wood, linoleum and metal prints and left behind an extensive body of drawings, prints, watercolors and oil paintings.
