The band was founded in 2009 in London district of Camden founded by Charles Haddon, Joe Hutchinson and Caan Capan. In the same year she made her breakthrough with her debut single Dance the Way I Feel . It reached the top ten on the UK indie charts and the Australian ARIA charts. On August 20, 2010, Charles Haddon, the band's singer, committed suicide after appearing at the Pukkelpop festival near Hasselt (Belgium) . In the backstage area he climbed an 18 meter high radio mast and fell to his death. The suicide resulted from an incident in which the singer allegedly seriously injured a young girl while trying to crowd surf . His desperation that the girl might retain irreparable damage drove him to commit suicide.

On October 3, 2010, the two remaining band members held a concert in London in memory of Charles Haddon. The Kooks and Mr. Hudson appeared among others . The £ 8,000 proceeds from the concert were donated to charitable organizations.
