Ou Manling
Man-Ling Wittchen-Ou (born Ou Manling 區 曼玲) is a Taiwanese writer living in Germany.
Life
Ou Manling was born in Taipei , Taiwan. Her father is originally from China and fled to Taiwan in 1950 during the war between the National People's Party of China, Guomindang, and the Communist Party .
Ou studied "Foreign Languages and Literatures" at the National University of Taiwan and obtained a master's degree in theater studies and English from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , Germany. Her master's thesis from 1997 was entitled Ingmar Bergman Staged Strindberg and Ibsen ( Ingmar Bergman Stages Strindberg and Ibsen ).
She has lived in Germany for over 20 years. In addition to her native Mandarin Chinese , she is also fluent in English and German.
Ou has published numerous articles and short stories. Her works are marked by empathic insight based on bold observation and an understanding of psychology. Although her works are often shaped by the intention of social criticism and contain many dramatic elements, she does not write without humor.
Her first book, "Of Ribs and Joys - Women in the Bible", contains 22 stories that describe the special situations of every single woman, such as Eve , Mary or Herodias . The author uses the narrative in first person form and depicts the struggle, the doubts, the suffering, the fears and the joys of women. The women get a tangible character and are recorded with all their emotional turmoil. The author's intention is to bring the Bible closer to the modern reader and thus to recognize the book as timeless and universal.
Her second book, "Das Kliff", is a novel that deals with the topics of friendship, redemption and a new beginning.
In her free time, Ou enjoys art, architecture and playing the piano. She gives architectural tours on the campus of the renowned Vitra Design Museum and is a speaker at various events.
