history
Until the introduction of the Reformation , the Oude Kerk was dedicated to St. Antonius Abbas . The church, located directly on the North Sea coast on the dike, was largely rebuilt after a flood in 1470 in the form of a pseudo-basilica . The choir, closed on five sides and higher than the nave, already existed at this point. The nave itself followed around 1500, and the west tower was placed in front of it around 1525. The octagonal upper floor of the tower has a counterpart in the nearby Loosduinen abbey church .
In the course of the 16th century, a southern transept was added to the nave, but this had to give way to a sexton's house in the 19th century. This was replaced in 1957-59 by a new parish hall in the neo-baroque style of the 18th century. At the same time, a sacristy on the north side of the choir was reconstructed on foundations from the 16th century.
