Galtee More (1894-1917) was a thoroughbred - racehorse and sire . He was drawn in Ireland and trained in England.
In his racing horse career, which lasted from 1896 to 1897, he ran thirteen times and won eleven races. In 1897, at the age of three, he won the English Triple Crown , winning the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, the Derby at Epsom and the St. Leger at Doncaster. After the 1897 racing season, it was sold to the Russian government.
Galtee More was a successful stallion who sired numerous winners of important races in Russia, Hungary and Poland. In 1904 he was sold to the Graditz Stud in Germany for £ 14,000 and produced numerous winners here too. In 1910 he was the champion of the German father horses .
In January 1917 he was unloaded from the train for a trip to the Union Stud in Hoppegarten when he seriously injured his hind leg. He was brought back to the stud by sledge and hung up in slings in the hope of being able to save him. However, it turned out that the hind leg was broken and no help was possible. He had to be redeemed that same evening, at the age of 23.
