The Oued Nekor (sometimes also Oued Nakor ) is a coastal river in northern Morocco . It only carries water after prolonged or heavy rainfall; otherwise it falls largely or completely dry for several months a year.
course
The Oued Nakor rises in the Rif Mountains south of Al Hoceima and then flows in a northerly direction to flow into the Mediterranean after about 100 km in the Bay of Al Hoceima.
Tributaries and reservoir
The Oued Nekor has only smaller tributaries, which also dry out for much of the year. It is dammed about 5 km east of Beni Bouayach in a reservoir ( Barrage Abd el-Krim el Khattabi ).
history
In the course of the Islamic invasion of the Maghreb , Salih I ibn Mansour founded the emirate of Noukour around the year 710 , which existed until 1019. The capital, which is probably in the bay of Al Hoceima or just a little south of it (possibly near Beni Bouayach), was badly affected by an attack by the Vikings around the year 860 .
