Oum Lâalag
The sacred oasis Oum Lâalag ( French L'Oasis sacrée d'oum Lâalag ) is located 50 km southwest of M'hamid in Morocco on the old road to Timbuktu, a few kilometers from the Algerian border.
The oasis is about 15 hectares and is considered sacred because it has the most precious wealth of the desert: water. According to an old popular belief, the spring is inhabited by a protective soul. There is a bivouac camp in the oasis, which offers environmentally friendly tourism according to strict rules. From there you can reach the high dunes of Erg Chegaga by camel or off-road vehicle.
The oasis is part of the 123,000 hectare Iriqui National Park , which was established in 1994. There are Dorcas gazelles , African ostriches , barbels , oryx , hyenas and collar busters in the area .
