OutRage!

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

OutRage! is a British action group that campaigns for the rights of homosexual, bisexual and transgender people . Its founder is Peter Tatchell . The group was formed on May 10, 1990. Many of their protests are directed against religious groups who, in one way or another, have either positioned themselves against homosexuality or, according to OutRage! work against the visibility of homosexuality.

Judaism

The then British Chief Rabbi Immanuel Jakobovits responded to a study by Dean Hamer in 1993, in which Hamer identified possible genetic causes of homosexuality, in which he said that this offered the opportunity to use genetic engineering to ensure that homosexuality was eliminated. As a result, OutRage! held a demonstration in front of a London synagogue , but the general perception was that it was rather liberal. The leaflets distributed there compared Jakobovits' remarks with those of Adolf Hitler . This led to allegations of anti-Semitism being brought against the group.

Church of England

Since the autumn of 1994, the association has been focusing on the fight against religious homophobia . When Michael Turnbull was ordained Bishop of Durham , OutRange! the episcopal ordination with a demonstration. It had become known through a press release that he had been convicted of a gay sex offense in 1968. As a result, 9 other Church of England bishops known or suspected of being homosexual were also discovered by OutRage! at a rally in front of the Church House urged them to “tell the truth”. Those ten bishops were not officially named, but the Melbourne Star Observer in Australia published the names of the parishes. At the same time Peter Tatchell began a dialogue with the Bishop of London , David Hope on, who was not named among the top ten since the group suspected he might volunteer a coming-out have. Press reports speculating about the sexuality of various bishops made Dr. Hope fearing the worst, so in February 1995 he held a press conference talking about OutRage! condemned for their pressure tactics, and called his own sexuality a "gray area".
