Peter Tatchell
Peter Gary Tatchell (born January 25, 1952 in Melbourne ) is a British human rights activist who became known, among other things, through attempted civil arrests of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe in 1999 and 2001.
Life
At the 10th World Festival of Youth and Students from July 28 to August 5, 1973 in East Berlin with around 25,000 participants, Tatchell, as a member of the British Labor Party delegation, made his gayness public under the world clock on Alexanderplatz . He founded the "Peter Tatchell Human Rights Fund" to support his human rights work and to take action against human rights violations on a broader basis. In 2006, New Statesman magazine named Peter Tatchell the 6th "Heroes of Our Time" category. He started the Reggae Compassionate Act , which several reggae artists from Jamaica signed. In 2018 he drew attention to human rights violations against the LGBTIQ community in Russia in Moscow .
