action

The series is about the lesbian teenager Rose Miller and her coming out . At her side is the single father Nathan. In doing so, not only is a young person's difficulty in coming out, but also perspectives from the environment.

season 1

Best friends Rose and Vanessa aren't sure they could be lesbians. A kiss should bring clarity. While Rose realizes after the kiss that she is attracted to Vanessa, Vanessa first tries to suppress her feelings and denies her affection for Rose.

Rose's father Nathan also suspects that his daughter may be a lesbian. He does research on the Internet and asks a gay acquaintance because he does not initially know how to behave towards his daughter. To help Rose come out, he tries to make it clear to her that he will always stand by her - no matter what she wants to tell him.

At the end of the first season, Rose comes out to her best friend Kenny.

season 2

After Rose comes out to her father, both react relieved about the situation. She tells Vanessa about it at school, but she immediately distances herself.

When Nathan accidentally outed Rose to Vanessa's mother one day, she forbade Vanessa from any contact with Rose. The strictly religious mother fears that the "disease" homosexuality could otherwise spread to Vanessa. As a result, Rose and Nathan fall out because Rose wants to have the power to decide who she comes out to and because she now has the feeling that she could lose Vanessa as her best friend. Fearing her mother, Vanessa continues to suppress her feelings and tries to be interested in boys.

Rose meets the also openly lesbian Claire at school. After they happen to meet again in the PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) self-help group , Rose wants to get to know her better, but fails because she feels torn between Vanessa and Claire and about hers Feelings about the latter is not clear.

The season ends with Rose deciding to make a few radical changes to the design of her room.
