Odd eidem

Odd Eidem (born October 23, 1913 in Oslo , † June 10, 1988 in Nesodden ) was a Norwegian writer and literary critic . He also published under the pseudonym Justino Valente .

Life

Eidems parents were Dorothea Serine Eidem and Gunnar Kølbel , who ran his print shop together with his father. The parents separated when Eidem was a child. He and his two younger brothers grew up with their mother in Hamar . After graduating from high school, he began studying literary history in Oslo in 1933. During his student days he wrote articles for the Hamar Arbeiderblad newspaper . In 1937 he published a book about German writers in exile under the title Diktere i landfylktighet . After he achieved his master's degree in 1938 , he worked in the Nansenamt until the invasion by the Wehrmacht in 1940 . During this time, in 1939, he published his first novel, Uten fane .

After the war he got a job as a literary critic and from 1955 also a theater critic at the newly founded newspaper Verdens Gang . He worked there until 1977. He then wrote a weekly column for the newspaper Aftenposten from 1978 to 1988 . Eidem wrote numerous essayistic and partly satirical short texts, the children's book Jeppe Jansen's Giraffe as well as plays, travelogues and other novels in the 1970s and 1980s.

Eidem received several literary prizes, including the 1968 Bokhandler Prize for Zikzak , the 1978 Critic Prize for the novel Cruise and the Cappelen Prize in 1980. Also in 1980, his novel Pieter og jeg was nominated for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize.
