The Outer Ring Road , abbreviated ORR , also State Highway 234 , is a ring road around the metropolitan area of Chennai (CMA) in Tamil Nadu in India .
The planned length of the road is 62.6 km, of which only 1 km has not yet been built. The Outer Ring Road connects the Grand Southern Trunk Road (NH 45) leading to Tiruchirappalli in the south of Chennai with the Tiruvottiyur – Ponneri – Panchetty Road (TPP) in the north of the city. The ORR leads heavy traffic around the city on the north-south axis, thereby relieving the center of Chennai from through traffic.
The road was built in two sections. The first section was the 29.65 km long southern part between the NH 45 and the NH 205 , the second section was the approximately 30 km long section between the NH 205 and the TPP. The country needs the road is 545.08 hectares , the construction costs amount to 20 trillion Rs (380 million US dollars ).
