The National Highway 45 (NH 45) or Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST Road) is a trunk road ( National Highway ) in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . It leads from Chennai to Theni and has a length of 472 kilometers.
National Highway 45 begins in southern Chennai at the Kathipara Junction as an extension of Chennai's main road Anna Salai (Mount Road). From there it leads south-west via Tambaram , Tindivanam , Villupuram , Tiruchirappalli , Manapparai , Dindigul and Periyakulam to Theni. The National Highway 45 connects the capital Chennai with central Tamil-Nadu and is therefore the most important traffic axis of the state. The road between Chennai and Tiruchirappalli has four lanes. In the suburbs of Chennai in particular, fatal accidents often occur due to the considerable volume of traffic and the dense population.
The name Grand Southern Trunk Road refers to the historic Grand Trunk Road in Northern India.
