National Expressway 1 ( NE 1 ), also Ahmedabad Vadodara Expressway or Mahatma Gandhi Expressway , is an expressway opened in 2003 in the state of Gujarat in western India with a length of 93.1 kilometers. It leads from Ahmedabad via Nadiad and Anand to Vadodara . The National Expressway 1 is part of the National Highway 8 , which leads from the Indian capital New Delhi to the financial metropolis Mumbai , and thus also part of the Golden Quadrilateral .
The travel time between the two cities was reduced from two and a half to around an hour as a result of the construction. The road has four lanes, a six-lane expansion is planned.
