National Highway 40 ( NH 40 ) is a major highway in the state of Meghalaya in northeast India with a length of 216 kilometers. It begins in Jorabat on the border with the state of Assam at NH 37 and runs initially in a southerly direction via the capital of Meghalaya, Shillong , to almost the border with Bangladesh in Dawki . There it makes a bend to the northeast and leads to Jowai at the NH 44 .
