National Highway 22 ( NH 22 ), also called the Hindustan-Tibet Road, is a main highway in the northwest of the state of India with a length of 459 kilometers. It begins in Ambala in the state of Haryana on the NH 1 and after 5 km through this state leads a further 31 km through the neighboring state of Punjab , not far from the Union territory of Chandigarh . It then runs through Haryana again for 25 km before crossing the border with the state of Himachal Pradesh , through which it runs 398 km. The NH 22, which is sometimes very dangerous because of the steep mountain slopes, crosses the state capital Shimla as well as Narkanda and Rampur and finally ends at Khab near the Chinese border.
