National Highway 16
The National Highway 16 ( NH 16 ) is a federal highway in the east of the state of India with a length of 1,664 kilometers. The road has four lanes throughout, but not always like a motorway. It begins near Calcutta in the state of West Bengal and after 180 km in West Bengal leads a further 447 km through Odisha and around 1,000 km through the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh along the Bay of Bengal . Finally it ends after 80 km in the state of Tamil Nadu near the metropolis of Chennai (Madras).
Renumbering of national roads
The current NH 16 highway used to be called NH 5 . The former NH 16 trunk road is now called NH 63 .
