Srikakulam ( telugu : శ్రీకాకుళం; earlier Anglicizing Chicacole ) is a city in the northeast of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh .
It is the capital of the district of the same name and has about 125,000 inhabitants (2011 census). Srikakulam is located on the Nagavali River . The city is the seat of the diocese Srikakulam . In late 2015, Srikakulam was promoted to a municipal corporation .
The surroundings of the place are dominated by agriculture.
The region around Srikakulam was the center of a Naxalite- inspired peasant uprising at the end of the 1960s .
