Chittoor is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh .

Chittoor is 120 km west of Chennai . The Ponnai , a left tributary of the Palar , flows past the city to the north and east.

In July 2012, the city was promoted to a municipal corporation . In this context, 14 neighboring Gram Panchayats were incorporated. Chittoor is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . The city had 160,722 inhabitants at the 2011 census. It extends over an area of ​​69.75 km².

The national highway NH 4 ( Bangalore –Chennai) passes Chittoor. The Chittoor district is also known for fine mango varieties and has many mango markets.
