Nellore ( Telugu : నెల్లూరు Nellūru [ ˈnelːuːru ] Urduنیلور) is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh . It is the capital of the Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district .

The city itself has around 505,000 inhabitants, 564,000 people live in the Nellore agglomeration (2011 census). The population development is increasing. In the city there are various high schools and colleges, which represent the educational offer. The most widely spoken languages ​​in the city are Telugu and Tamil .
