The Nagavali (also Nagabali , Oriya ନାଗାବଳୀ ନଦୀ , Telugu నాగావళి నది ) is a river in eastern India in the states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh .
The Nagavali rises in the Bijipur Hills , a ridge of the Eastern Ghats , at about 800 m altitude in the Kalahandi district in Odisha. It initially cuts through the mountain ranges of the Eastern Ghats in an easterly direction. Then it turns south. It passes the district capital Rayagada and after 125 km reaches Andhra Pradesh. The Nagavali is dammed into a reservoir by the Thotapalli barrage . The right tributary Suvarnamukhi is dammed by the Madduvalasa dam shortly before it flows into the Nagavali . The Nagavali flows 2 km south of the city of Palakonda . The Vansadhara flows in the lower reaches 12 km further east parallel to Nagavali. The Nagavali flows through the city of Srikakulam and finally reaches the Bay of Bengal after another 10 km . The Nagavali is 217 km long. Its catchment area covers 9275 km², of which 4500 km² are in Odisha and 4775 km² in Andhra Pradesh. The river is used for irrigation .
