Paradeep (also Paradip ) is a city and most important seaport in the Indian state of Odisha .

Paradeep is on the coast of the Bay of Bengal at the mouth of the Mahanadi .

The city is located in the Jagatsinghpur District . The port of Paradeep was laid out in 1962. Since then it has been an important industrial location in Odisha. Paradeep has been a Notified Area Council (NAC) since September 18, 1980 and a municipality with 18 wards since December 12, 2002 . The city is connected to the national highway NH 5 , which runs along the east coast of India, via the 80 km long NH 5A feeder road . From Cuttack , 80 km to the west, a railway line leads to Paradeep.

Residents

In the 2011 census, the population was 68,585. The gender ratio was 839 women for 1000 men. The literacy rate was 85.93%.
