The Jagatsinghpur district (also Jagatasiṃhapura or Jagatsinghapur , Oriya ଜଗତସିଂହପୁର ଜିଲ୍ଲା Jagatasinhapura Jillā ) is a district in the east Indian state of Odisha .
The district lies in the coastal plain east of Cuttack and is bounded by the two main estuaries of the Mahanadi . The administrative seat is the eponymous city Jagatsinghpur . The area is 1668 km² (according to other information 1759 km²). The population density is 682 inhabitants / km².
The district was created on April 1, 1993 by separating from the district of Cuttack .

In 2011 there were 1,136,971 inhabitants in the district. The gender ratio was 968 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 86.59% (92.38% for men, 80.63% for women). The majority of the population is Hindu (95.53%), 4.13% are Muslim .
