The Deogarh district (also Debagarh , Oriya ଦେବଗଡ଼ ଜିଲ୍ଲା Dēbagaṛa Jillā ) is located in the north of the Indian state of Odisha .
The district was established on January 1, 1994. The area was separated from the existing Sambalpur district . The administrative seat is in the city of Deogarh .
location
The district extends over an area of 2940 km² in the Koshal region in the mountains of the Eastern Ghats west of the Brahmani river .
Residents
In the 2011 census, the population was 312,520. The gender ratio was 975 women for 1000 men. The literacy rate was 72.57% (81.92% for men, 63.05% for women). 94.71% of the population are followers of Hinduism , 4.65% are Christians .
