The Jajpur District ( Oriya ଯାଜପୁର ଜିଲ୍ଲା Yājapura Jillā ) is a district in the east Indian state of Odisha .
The district lies in the coastal plain at the foot of the Eastern Ghats on the lower reaches of the Brahmani and Baitarani rivers . The administrative seat is the city of Jajpur . The area is 2899 km². The population density is 630 inhabitants / km².
The district was formed on April 1, 1993 by separating from the district of Cuttack .

In 2011 there were 1,827,192 inhabitants in the district. The gender ratio was 973 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 80.13% (86.84% for men, 73.29% for women). The majority of the population is Hindu (94.44%), 5.12% are Muslim .
