The district of Kendujhar (also Keonjhar , Oriya କେନ୍ଦୁଝର ଜିଲ୍ଲା Kēndujhara Jillā ) is a district in the east Indian state of Odisha .

The district is located in the Eastern Ghats about 130 km north of Cuttack . The administrative seat is the city of Kendujhar . The area is 8303 km² (according to other information 8240 km²). The population density is 217 inhabitants / km².

The district was established on January 1, 1948.

In 2011 there were 1,440,361 inhabitants in the district. The gender ratio was 988 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 68.24% (78.12% for men, 58.28% for women). The majority of the population is Hindu (97.28%), 1.54% are Muslim .

Administrative division

The district consists of three sub-divisions : Anandapur, Champua and Kendujhar.
