The district of Baleswar ( Oriya ବାଲେଶ୍ୱର ଜିଲ୍ଲା Bālēśẇara Jillā , also Baleshwar or Balasore ) is located in the northeast of the Indian state of Odisha .

The district of Baleswar has existed since October 1828, when it was still under the Bengal presidency . District capital is Baleswar .

location

The district extends over an area of ​​3806 km² along the coast of the Bay of Bengal and extends in the north to the border with the state of West Bengal . The Subarnarekha River flows through the far northeast of the district.

Residents

In the 2011 census, the population was 2,320,529. The gender ratio was 957 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 79.79% (87% for men, 72.28% for women). 94.71% of the population were followers of Hinduism , 4.06% Muslim .

Administrative division

The district consists of two sub-divisions : Baleswar and Nilgiri.
