The Rayagada District ( Oriya ରାୟଗଡ଼ା ଜିଲ୍ଲା Rāẏagaṛā Jillā ) is a district in the east Indian state of Odisha .
The district is located in the mountains of the Eastern Ghats in the extreme southwest of Odisha. The administrative seat is the eponymous city of Rayagada . The area is 7073 km². The population density is 137 inhabitants / km².
The Rayagada District was established on October 2, 1992, when it was separated from the then Koraput District .

In 2011 there were 967,911 inhabitants in the district. The gender ratio was 1051 women for 1000 men. The literacy rate was 49.76% (61.04% for men, 39.19% for women). The majority of the population is Hindu (90.34%), 8.77% are Christians .
Administrative division
The district consists of the two sub-divisions Gunupur and Rayagada.
