The district of Koraput ( Oriya କୋରାପୁଟ ଜିଲ୍ଲା Kōrāpuṭa Jillā ) is located in the southwest of the Indian state of Odisha .
The district was founded on April 1, 1936. District capital is Koraput .
location
It extends over an area of 8807 km². The eastern part is in the Eastern Ghats . The Kolab Reservoir is located in the center of the district .
Residents
In the 2011 census, the population was 1,379,647. The gender ratio was 1,032 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 49.21% (60.32% for men, 38.55% for women). 93.80% of the population are followers of Hinduism , 4.97% are Christians .
Administrative division
The district consists of the two sub-divisions Jeypore and Koraput.
