Ascanio Filomarino (* 1583 in Benevento ; † November 3, 1666 in Naples ) was Archbishop of Naples and cardinal .

Life

Ascanio Filomarino, son of an Italian aristocratic family, studied law and then went to Rome. Pope Urban VIII appointed him his private chamberlain. He later became a chamberlain of his nephew Cardinal Francesco Barberini , whom he accompanied to France and Spain. In 1634 Filomarino became Commander Abbot of Santa Maria Maddalena in Armillis .

In the consistory of December 16, 1641 it took Urban VIII. As Cardinal Priest of Santa Maria in Aracoeli into the College of Cardinals on. On the same day, Urban appointed him Archbishop of Naples after prior mediation by his brother Gennaro Filomarino .
