The district of Bhadrak ( Oriya ଭଦ୍ରକ ଜିଲ୍ଲା Bhadraka Jillā ) is a district in the east Indian state of Odisha .

The district is located in the coastal plain north of the lower reaches of the Baitarani . The Salandi River flows through the district. In the east the district extends to the coast of the Bay of Bengal . The administrative seat is the city of Bhadrak . The area is 2505 km² (according to other information 2787.9 km²). The population density is 601 inhabitants / km².

The district of Bhadrak was created on April 1, 1993, when it was separated from the then Balasore district .

In 2011 there were 1,506,337 inhabitants in the district. The gender ratio was 981 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 82.78% (89.64% for men, 75.83% for women). The majority of the population is Hindu (92.84%), 6.92% are Muslim .
