The district of Puri ( Oriya ପୁରୀ ଜିଲ୍ଲା Purī Jillā ) is located in the Indian state of Odisha . The administrative seat is the eponymous city of Puri .
location
The district extends over an area of 3852 km² (according to other information 3051 km²). It is located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal .
Residents
In the 2011 census, the population was 1,698,730. The gender ratio was 963 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 84.67% (90.85% for men, 78.28% for women). 96.83% of the population profess Hinduism , 2.71% are Muslim .
