Life

After attending school, Alfred Raum studied at the Berlin Royal Academy of Arts . In spring 1902 he received the Academy’s Grand State Prize .

With the Rome Scholarship, Alfred Raum was given a studio in the Villa Strohl-Fern from 1902 to 1903 , where he came into contact with other artists. His sculptures are also often influenced by ancient models.

In Dahlem near Berlin , Alfred Raum acquired a house on Hundekehlestrasse ( belonging to Berlin-Schmargendorf since 1938 ), in which other artists lived (in 1909 there were a total of six sculptors with him ( Bernhard Frydag , Hans Arnoldt , Carl Ebbinghaus , Hermann Hosaeus , Sigismund Wernelinck ), as well as painter and architect Wilhelm Frydag . Later, artists lived here again and again, for example in 1936 the sculptors Ernst Balz , Günter von Scheven , Adolf Wamper and the sculptor Elfriede Winkelmann were named. This studio house existed still in the 1940s, then again occupied by new artists.

Artistically, Alfred Raum's work is assigned to Impressionism . In 1912 the Kunstverein Hamburg organized exhibitions under the heading Collections of the Berlin Impressionists , in which works by Alfred Raum were also represented.

Alfred Raum was born in 1909 with Elsbeth (Else) Raum. Beleites (1868–1942) married, who continued to manage the property in Hundekehlestrasse after his death.
